Hello . I am new to this forum and I hope this is the correct place for this post.

I have a small (about 1 1/2 inch) bottle with a brass lid.
The makers mark on the bottom is an O inside of a square. I believe this to be an Owens bottle company mark.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.
What I am trying to figure out is what year this bottle is.
What was the contents of this bottle when it was made.
What the 4 on either side of the Owens mark means.
And what is it worth if anything.
Any other info would be great to.

The pictures:
The drawing is the markings on the bottom of the bottle. Other image is the bottle next to a quarter.[attachment=2015-04-12 12.40.19.jpg]

Welcome,I'd guess an ammonia (smelling) salts that was worn around the neck from the crystals still inside. I don't remember if Owens was using a date code system and without knowing more like if it's ground top etc., I can only guess about 1910 or so.Nice little bottle and the chain makes it really great.

I'm sorry I put the cordage and crystals inside. When I found the bottle at the file market it had what looked to be dried paint. Yellow blue green and red. I think it was put into the bottle for decoration. Like I did with the crystals and woven cord I put in and on it.

Not sure I want to sell it just yet. But the chain is actually a macrame cord I made and put on the bottle. It did not come with that. I also put the crystals inside of it. They are tiny Herkimer diamonds. I put the crystals in and wove a macrame cord to wear the bottle as a necklace.

That's the site I used to identify the maker. Its a great site. I just couldn't figure out what the 4 on the left and right side of the maker's mark meant. I also couldn't figure out what the bottle was used for and maybe even a date and value.

Well, I can't help you any more than I already have and after seeing the additional pictures it's not what I thought it was. Thank you for the additional input. It's not really worth $20 to me but still a nice item so you don't have to worry about selling it. The original contents are still questionable in my mind, could be a number of things. Not a great deal of value in my opinion, the brass lid is probably the best part of it. Jim

OK, the marks were similar to OI diamond and that should be Plant 4 Clarksburg WV and 1924. I got that from a download and it's probably still out there, I just don't remember where, most like at SHA in the reference page. BLM Historic Bottle Homepage.I guess I need to change that bookmark. it's just old though, it still works.
