I always believed the term "Dressing" was specific to shoe and boot polish.

I think you're absolutely right. I lost track of that "Dressing" in your original post. Be it dressing or blacking, it's a great buxom bottle! You were fortunate to unearth it.

Thanks Surf for your help. I had fun checking out that patent website. I discovered Staunton Dan dug one and posted it here back on Oct. 18 of '08 but same results....
