this is a small bottle...3 3/4" high.... it is cobalt blue...round ....has chinese writing on two sides...mold mark looks like it goes just to where the neck meets the shoulders.

My Chinese is a bit rusty ([])but I'd guess an herbal medecine or possibly snuff,though chinese snuff bottles are usually very ornate,more akin to modern fancy perfume bottles.Is there a Chinatown in your area?You might have better luck getting a translation there![][]

thanks Kat....there are alot of Japenese here don't know about Chinese...I'll have to check..
the bottle was dug in California...around the gold fields I think....

imadigger, Awhile back someone said they brought one to a Chinese restaurant and there was someone working there able to translate. Try the nearest Chinese restaurant.

if the bott was dug in Cali,....I bet its from opium den,..........
unlike out west we here in the east coast dont see many types of bottles like that unless its a post WW2 piece.///

Id keep it!, also i would send a pic to Digger O'dell to see what it was .........
also looks heavy,and id say 1870's give or take?!
