Just an update and question about this bitters bottle.

I recently found a listing of the bottle that has this info:

CARPATHIAN// HERB BITTERS// HOLLANDER DRUG CO. (in script)//BRADDOCK, PA
9"x2 3/4"x6 1/2
square, amber, LTC, applied mouth, tooled lip, rare
M&Q, TMS 70, UMB 400, WAT 73

So, what i would like to know is what does "LTC" stand for???

Also, can anyone give me info on what the 3rd line is stating, "M&Q, TMS 70, UMB 400, WAT 73"???

the dimensions my be slightly different then the listing but i am going by memory there.

the listing has a couple others for variations of this bottle. One is listed as "very rare", and another is listed as "extremely rare" and mine is listed as "rare". Can anyone please give me info on what the rarity means? i realize it means that there is less than X amount known to exist, but what is the scale used there?

Hi kranked-
Sounds like your listing came from Carlyn Ring and Bill Ham's book Bitters Bottles.
http://www.bittersbottles.net/

LTC refers to the type of mouth a the bottle has, in this case Long Tapered Collar.

As for the third line these are references to other books that list this bottle.
TMS = Thompson, Bitters Bottles
UMB = Umberger, It's a Bitters
WAT= Watson, Bitters Bottles

Hope this helps.

According to Ring & Ham's .........
Extremely rare 1 - 5 specimens known to collectors
Very rare 6 - 15
Rare 16 - 35
Very scarce 36 - 75
Scarce 76 - 150
Common more than 150

Nice bottle! I can't provide any good information, just the opinion that the "1 8/16 PTS" was a fun way of advertising the additional 8 ounces on top of the full pint.

Thanks for that information, everyone!!

I'll pass the info on to my dad, he owns the bottle and will be happy to hear that there may be less than 35 like his to be known to exist. Although he dug his so it needs added to the list right?!?
