how rare are Hostetters with backwards J's. I have heard there are only around 5 known ??

Hi Heavy ,
Your talking about a Bitters listed in Ring & Ham's Bitters Bottles Book(Reference book)as a H 196 DR J HOSTETTER'S / STOMACH BITTERS // f // f // f // Square , Amber and Green . LTC , Extremely rare . Letter J is reversed . Amber example dug in Virginia City , Nevada.
In Ring & Ham's rarity ratings for Extremely rare , is 1- 5 examples known to collectors.
So , it is a RARE bird indeed !

Bitters Bottles by : Carlyn Ring & W.C. Ham Copyright 1998
It's a great and invaluable reference if you collect Bitters . It is still available from the publisher : William C. Ham , P.O. BOX 427 , Downieville ,CA. 95936 and he has an updated addenda due out sometime this year .
