I'm sorry for asking questions, but I am new and trying to learn. How can you tell how old a cylinder whiskey is? I'm talking fifth sized cylinders.

So far I have seen black glass with kicked up pontils, open pontiled cylinders, iron pontiled cylinders, disk pontiled cylinders, and smooth bases. Are there any other distinctions that would be helpful?

How can you tell the difference between an 1820 American whiskey and a 1850, 1870 or1900?

Thank you!

crudeness, shape, color, style, base treatment. Just like you would on any other bottle, takes being around bottles a little while before you get the hang of being able to date them
