Well, I made my bottle diggin' comeback yesterday in 101 degree heat wading all day through a very polluted creek in Amelia Co. Va. I did not expect much as I knew this site would have been discovered by other diggers since my last visit = late 90s. As I started my wade I noted signs of recent activity: culled/broken bottles lining the banks on either side, I did not even find a whole dud over the first 1/2 mile, bumming I was, but I remained focused and patient.

I noted as the creek got further from civilization and rougher to navigate (it is a brutal/nasty wade), the signs of looting lessened and the finds started: first an amber Lynchburg Va. Coke, then two local Farmville mineral water bottles (crowns), an amethyst Lazarus-Gooding Lynchburg bar-bottle, an amethyst Farmville Dispensary flask, a crock ink, a bowling pin: Arctic Fruit Juice (Norfolk), a Miller and Pierce Apothacaries (Richmond), another Dispensary flask, a Cole Distillery baltimore oval (Louisville)and finally an amethyst Peterburg Va. Coke. There were other decent bottles as well - some I kept, some I sacrificed as the wade back was difficult (had to leave two large crock jugs as well).

Sad note of the day was the third Farmville Dispensary flask that I found and subsequently broke (I had placed the flask on the bank while I was grubbing, I got preturbed when I brought up a sweet-looking medicine with no embossment and carelessly pitched it = guess where it landed?).

I did take some pics of the haul, will share when I overcome technical limitations...

Thanx to everyone for getting me going again. E

OK, now I'm sort of getting it, but still had to cut off top to fit (bottle does have a very nice intact top by the way). I guess idea is to take photos from further back? Is there another way of making these things fit other than going mad with cropping? Any help would be appreciated.

Hope these are better pics, now I will have to work with better lighting...

4 sodas found tuesday, two center bottles are the local cokes: lynchburg - deep amber, petersburg - amethyst. Other two are Farmville locals. The good thing about living in the rural south is that almost any local bottle you find is a keeper.

A better shot of one of the day's Farmville Dispensary flasks. I have found about 30 of these over the years - but the good thing is that there are at least 30 variations. I still get excited about every one that I find:

WAY TO GO! I LOVE WADING CREEKS AND FINDING BOTTLES!I can only wade down one creek so far ,because a chemical plant used to dump the waste right into the creek.I went past the spot where the chemicals were dumped in one time and when I would take a step bubbles would come up and there is no desciption I can think of to describe the smell! I got out quick! One of the chemicals this plant made was agent orange for the VIETNAM WAR! I guess the chemicals lay on the bottom forever and floods doesn't wash them away.
