Greetings all --

I have been unable to Google or eBay any info on this bottle, and I don't have a copy of the Ayers Pepsi book -- was wondering if anyone could give me any info...

8 1/2" Tall
Embossed "Pepsi Cola" (NO DOTS BETWEEN) on the front shoulder.
Embossed "THE SANITARY PLANT" and "CAP 6 1/2 OZ THIS BOTTLE MUST NOT BE SOLD UNDER PENALTY OF LAW" on the rear.

Thanks in advance for any information you can provide.

Hmmm... no help, eh?

Should I have posted this in the "What is it?" after 1900 forum?

Newbie to the forum, thought maybe the "Sodas" category was the way to go...

If I don't hear something in the next day or so, I'll try it over there...

Thanks for looking...

Hi George and Welcome -
Thanks for the bump and sorry for the slow reply, but I've been on vacation (I try to help w/ Pepsi threads). It looks as though yours in listed in the second book as a no city listing. On page 94 it looks like this:

No. NC 18
Age: Teens Height:8 3/8"
Type: Applied top
Color: Aqua Blue
Front: PC in script on shoulder - blank rectangular slug at base
Back: THE SANITARY PLANT on shoulder - CAP. 6 1/2 OZ. over THIS BOTTLE MUST NOT BE SOLD UNDER PENALTY OF LAW near base
Rarity: 3
Value: $100.00

Thanks, Meech -- that was the exact info I was looking for!

I can usually get an idea on age and value from google searches or complete ebay listings, but I was striking out with this one. I was also stumped by the lack of "dots" between the Pepsi and Cola.

Because it is listed as "no city" does that indicate that this was a generic sort of bottle that was used at multiple bottling plants, or is "The Sanitary Plant" the actual name of the bottling plant? Just curious as to where the bottle originated from.

Thanks again,

-- George

George -
After going through both books, there only seems to be three states that used the slogan... SC, NC, VA.

The ones I came up with are:
South Carolina =
No. GREEN 2,3,4,8,9,11
No. SP3
No. BEN1
No. GREE4,5
No. NEWB6,7

North Carolina =
No. LAU1

Virginia =
No. WIN2

Now if I was a bettin' man, I'd go w/ the odds and say your bottle may be a SC Pepsi.

Warren - There isn't any formula to figure out which Pepsi is worth more than the other. Some machine made SS Pepsis go for quite a pretty penny (at least book) and some blown ones, very little. Usually, Rarity 4's and 5's are very tough to come by. You never know until you look 'em up. [:)]

Thanks again, Meech...

SC is a pretty safe bet -- that's where I snagged it. :)

I appreciate the info, I'm a bit of bottle neophyte -- but I go to a lot of estate auctions and yard sales, and grab bottles that appeal to my eye -- leaning towards the unusual -- that I can get for a bargain price. I also turn one up now and then on my metal detecting adventures.

Looks like I did pretty good on this one!
