I don't collect insulators but I've found two of them I have decided to keep all these years since they are locals...

$26,000 for the one insulator just BOGGLES my head. I suppose the same thing could be said of a non bottle freak seeing a bottle sell for $26,000...but damn!

For the record, I want the mullberry colored star travelers flask and the cobalt whiskey jug.

Hi Oldtimer, I agree with you, but some people have more money than brains. I remember a Boston Glass insulator selling a few years ago for $ 35,000. They have to just be Impulsive Possessive People.

I have had some valuable pieces and put them in museums, only to find out that the museums sold them to cover something else they felt was more important. Now I have decided that, that is a waste of value from ones pocket.

I think these are from Pat Potocka's collection. Pat was the Chairman & organizer of the Auburn Cal. bottle show.He passed on a little over a year ago.He also collected bottles. And was a really nice guy.

One of my LONG TIME diggin' partners dug that insulator and let Pat hose him out of it for next to nothing. I did the same on many occasions, but we all knew that his "fair offers" weren't so much so. He was a serious die hard collector and it made me feel good to let him get the best of me. Pat and Shirley were a couple of our dearest friends, so his passing and her "issues" were taken hard by the local community. May he rest in peace.

That's what I like about this hobby, its not always the money that drives it.But friendships and respect of each other.Sometimes you know your item is unique but you rather have it in another collectors hands who really likes it and will cherish it.
