Found this the other day, would like any info on it. I posted it on the digging and finding forum and they suggested I post it here.
4 inches in diameter and 2 inches high.
I saw the other thread about this here. It's taken me a while to figure this out!
I'm not a battery rest expert, but I'm sure this is one. I think you have a CD 50, shown here: http://www.insulators.info/pictures/?id=138469969 It matches your dimensions and that type has the four ribs. It's listed in an unembossed version in aqua. I believe the "screw top" of yours was broken off, based on the long, shallow chipping across the top that's visible in the top photo. I wouldn't be surprised if the damage happened back while the battery and rest were in service.
Hey Bill, Yes the top does look like it did have threads. Strange how it broke off though, it looks like a perfect U shaped channel from one side to the other. Do you or anyone else know what would be a reasonable price I should ask with the dammage? Thanks, Randy
I don't know exactly how these types were set up in use, but I wouldn't be surprised to learn that some sort of stress or vibrations broke off the screw top, and the continuing side-to-side stresses over time wore that channel across the top.
Anyways, the book value for one of these in good condition is 50-75. With the damage, especially missing a key characteristic like its screw top, it's tough to say. Maybe 10-15 or so? I tend to chop down price estimates pretty drastically for damage. Someone who really knows battery rests might have another opinion.
