Old Abe may be a reference to Old Abe the War Eagle. Old Abe was the name of a Bald Eagle that was the regiment mascot for the 8th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry Regiment during the Civil War. The story of Old Abe is a pretty cool read if you want to Google it. Awesome jar and I hope you find the lid.

The era of the Old Abe jar would likely have been during the Spanish American war. Not sure if Old Abe would have already been adopted by the 101st Airborne Division by then, but he was our mascot when I was assigned to them.

Yes Ribottleguy C. Cleminshaw on the hutch. It's kind of a plain looking hutch but I have like 4 of them and love digging them. The story about old Abe is pretty interesting....
