found this the other day. not sure if its old or modern. it has lots of bubbles and looks to be from a mold and hand tooled (the neck). its got that amethyst tint to it throughout. looks to be a swan candy dish and of an older style, and you are basically correct, we couldn't get manganese from Germany during the 1st world war so we used selenium instead, which turns glass tannish yellow instead of purple. by the time the war was over the glass works never went back to manganese. nice dish, and could very well be turn of the century or a bit later..........Andy

glass workers would make this kind of thing on there time off .for themselves or as gifts .
