As a regular attendee of auctions I'm always hoping for something like ya see on TV, 'hoping' being the key word here.

I have found to few treasures, but they sure as hell don't happen on a weekly basis.

Alas, was this going to be the case again?

Spotted the comic in an add for an estate sale that did not have much going for it, a few decent pieces, but this was IT. Researched the web about it, got a decent figure on its low end value as I'm not an expert on these. Got there, did not look like a big spender in the place or anyone seemed to show interest. We figured the grand we brought w/ us was enough...................figured.

Did not take long to get to it. After about half an hour and give away prices IT came up.

Did I get it? Mannnnnnnnnnnn, I never even got a bid in. Not that I wanted it, I wanted to resale it for a small profit. It went from $100 to $50 to $1625 in a instant. Now w/ the 10% BP and 5% sales tax = $1800.00 or so.

Never even raised my card.

I guessed it was worth 3-4K or so, but I was'nt going to invest $1800.00 + to see.

Maybe next time.

I know the feeling Pat, I'm always on the lookout for items that I can flip. I spend hours researching items in local auctions every month, sometimes I do well other times things sell for 25-50% more than what you could buy them for on Ebay, which baffles me...

WOW PAT!!!I have been looking for the "GREAT THING" since 1974 and like you have found some pretty good items...but never one that would bring great money [came close once]

I know on the nose PICKERS they find great stuff even when they just drive up to a unkown house..SURE..and PORN STARS are always getting wonderful things from idiots that just walk in off the street,,which they probably do since it is in Vegas and insane gamblers will sell their blood just to get back to the craps table....

MAYBE ONE DAY PAT OUR SHIP WILL COME IN..but mine will probably sink bout the time I get on it!![8D] JAMIE

they took the reality out of reality shows....storage wars for example is being sued by Dave Hester because they booted him of the show for disclosing things were being "planted" to make the show more interesting....

Pat/Jim (and others)...when you go to an auction, are you up for buying "anything" that you feel will bring a profit, or do you stick to certain comfortable categories, like bottles, comics, etc? About the best I've done is a bottle I got for $150. Only 4 known and hard to price, but guessing about $1000 on a good day. Seriously, I couldn't be a seller because I'd want to keep too much of it....Thnks....Ron

I will buy anything Ron, I have collected many different things over the years so I know a little about alot. If I have the time I will search just about every item in a local auction, except for furniture and jewelry, on the "SOLD" list of Ebay items... I picked up a Schwinn Lemon Peeler for $30 once, everyone there thought I was nuts because it had two flat tires, it sold for $4,000.

I turned this $300 group of seltzers into about $3,500 just last year. It was the last lot of the night and the auction was in the middle of NY state farmland and there was no other glass in the auction....

Sorry you didn't get it.

I went to my first big bottle and memorabilia auction last spring. There was so much stuff, it was a two day affair. One of the first bottles to go up ended up in a bidding war and sold for $1,500. I could tell this was going to be brutal (price -wise). Rather than getting carried away trying to win an item, I set limits as to how much I would spend. That first day I was going to bid on about two dozen items. I won one. Day two, however, was just the opposite. A bottle came up that I really wanted. I vowed to leave with one good bottle. I set a limit of $100. I won it for $15! I couldn't believe it. I got some excellent deals on that second day.
