Hi Everyone,
I'm looking for any info on a "J.J. Richards Lemonade" torpedo bottle. It's medium green and in fairly good shape maybe some light polishing to bring out all the shine. I found it while diving. I'll try to get some pics out of the other stuff I've found. Some nice ceramics and pontiled black glass beer and whisky bottles along with the usual embossed meds, sodas and beers. Thanks for the help.

Your J.J. Richards torpedo is from Halifax Nova Scotia. I dont know the exact dates but it is around the 1880. If in good shape it is a great find! . It is listed in Barry Wrights' book on Nova Scotia pop and soda bottles. When I get home tonight , I will look it up and email the exact date range.

Hi Gingerbeer man,
Thanks for the reply. Mine is a little darker green than the one pictured. I'll try to get a pic of it tonight. Does it list a value? This is my first torpedo so I'll probably hang on it but it's cool to know.

It really depends on condition and just how deep a green it is ,but in our local market up here in Canada it would sell $300-500 cdn. Torpedo's from our east coast are fairly rare.

I looked up the info on your bottle last night, the years that they were in business was 1853-1875. They used four different torpedos, two plain with just J.J. Richards embossed, and one with soda on the reverse and one with lemonade on the reverse. Yours appear to be the rarer.
To set the record straight, Barry Wrights book published in 1991 was call," EMBOSSED GLASS SODA WATER BOTTLES in NOVA SCOTIA."

Thanks again Gingerbeerman for all the help. Finally got a picture last night. Now hopefully I can get it posted. Here goes.

Forgot to get the Lemonade on the back. There's no major chips or cracks. Quite a few bubbles. I think with some light polishing it would shine like new.
