Though my preference is usually pre 1860s sodas recently bought this paper label 1971 bottle for my Trenton, NJ collection. As a person preoccupied with completeness I had to have this interesting EL Kerns bottle Trenton, NJ. Kerns was by far the most successful Trenton bottler, in business about 90 years. His last bottles can be about as hard to find as his early bottles And true to Kerns preoccupation with quality they are usually interesting. This green quart is the only "No deposit, no refill" bottle I have in my collection. Most of his later bottles were made by the Owens-Illinois company but this one does not have their mark but does have a date mark. I have never seen a Kerns bottle later than the 1970s so I assume the company ended by 1980. It was bought out by a large company.
Not exactly sure why "Tune Up" but do know Kerns was a sportsman and interested in athletics. kerns died in 1925 but his influence was apparently strong up to the end.
