So I like to see these writings about applied and tooled finishes. When this is done there are often horizontal tool marks on the finish glass surface. There is sometimes another thing that can be seen - that is vertical lines in the neck glass that will be an inch or more long - and these lines were formed when the bottle formed was turned using the blowpipe to turn it, to reduce or eliminate the mold seam lines. I now have six bottles with these vertical lines. I also have one of them that has an applied handle from the side of the crown finish that goes down to the shoulder of the bottle. These applied handles are another subject blog I am working on. When I get into these different bottle making process studies, I appreciate any help I can get from you other collectors. Some times even to getting loaners to study and photograph. It keeps me occupied anyway. RED Matthews
