Marshall Field and Company jar

I have hear back from the collector. He said that this kind of jar was sold in the mid 30s and early 40s with fruit preserve and had a metal lid, possibly aluminum.

I'm gonna be blunt...that sounds like total BS to me. Does that collector have some sort of proof? This bottle is tiny and would have been fairly costly to make. I'd wager a lot that it is smelling salts. It would have had a stopper. These classically have some haze on the inside as the smelling salts were a bit rough on the glass if they stay with contents for a long time.

Well, that is interesting. I had no knowledge concerning smelling salts. Specifically, that it would alter the clarity of the glass. I need to read up on it. The glass is very smooth and definitely feels high quality.
