got this mason's patent half gallon at a yard sale (was free) and after checking the red book 9 find only a ref for a half gallon with seriffed S's which this doesnt appear to have. The only ref to a clear one is #1756 in pint and the half gallon with serifed S's 1756-1. Anyone with red book 10? perhaps this was corrected in that issue. Thanks also need value if it was added in RB10

Hey Corey,

I have a RB 10 - but I won't be able to look it up till tonight - unless someone helps before then! I'd of snagged that 1/2 gallon from the free box too - [:D]

Hi Coreya. RB-10 now shows the QT as well as the PT in clear but still no HG in clear. The PT is listed at 35-50 and the QT is 8-10.

thanks for the info, its funny how everything matches for the 1756-1 except the serifed S's and not even sure about that with the amount of wear on the mold based on the lightness of embossing. any other thoughts on this is welcome.

Nice jar. Is it a shoulder seal jar or a beaded neck seal jar? RB10 #1755 lists a clear half gallon beaded neck seal jar at $50-75.

It is a shoulder seal so it would have to be either a 1756 or a 1756-1 but the more i look at it it's probably a 1756 just not listed or an unlisted variety as it does have the left leaning letters and the base mold number. whichever it is it looks good in my collection. thanks

Hi coreya, What are you meaning by the Serriffed S's and I see it also spelled
Serifed S's. I can only assume that you are referring to the letter cutting where the lower portion of the S is smaller that the upper part. I would have just considered it a mold makers error and let it go at that. Now it becomes a word for my Bottle Collectors Glossary. All I would appreciate is a confirmation or source of the term. Checking the Nowa - Webster, I found the word serif [Du schreef, a strok, line <schrijven, to write < L scribere: see scribe] Printing a fine line projecting from a main stroke of a letter in common styles of type,: see type. illus. I also have a Warners Safe bottle with an embossed A S in a domed key molded bottle; where the left side of the S has a line progressing vertically from the left upper part of the S, to the rough key side of the domed lettering. So I have to realize that the term has something to do with the lettering form.

Thanks. RED Matthews

Hey Red,
You may have gotten the serif thing but here is a picture that shows it (better than 1000 words). The S on the bottle at left has serifs while the one at right does not.
