Matt's book has a listing for a rectangular sun-colored amethyst bottle 4 1/2 inches tall with a tooled ring lip embossed: "Medical Department U. S. Army"... $65.00
It is a vaccine bottle. when my mom was a little girl ( 1930s) you had to go to the Navy Base to get the vaccine. Then you took it to the local Health Department or you personal doctor to have it administered.
Here is a pic of a full one. Hard little Booger to get a clear shot of. I had to go without a flash to get a clear pic of embossing and content.
Hi Juan, I have found over a hundred of the US Navy Medical department bottles where I dive near an old Navy Base. They come in lot of different sizes, which are marked on the bottle. I have found 25, 50, 100, 200, 250, 500
sizes in clear, aqua and amber. The US Navy ships had a stock of meds onboard and they just tossed them into the harbor once they were empty.
Dig around thae harbor sites where you are finding these bottles. I would guess it is an old anchorage site. You're apt to find plates, bowls, cups, pitchers, pipes, flasks, pepper, mustards... etc. Cool finds.[]
Thanks to everybody. Another bottle identificated.
Hi Wayne, I found it while diving.
The bottle was probably tossed into the harbor, as you say, once it was empty.
I know it's probably not within your spectrum of collecting (smile) but I figured I'd check.
I have an embossed 2-4-6 Dr Pepper from Frederick in very nice shape.
