Didn't feel like diggin. Just hikin' around. Checking out this, that, and the other thing.
You know, around trees,Rocks, Clumps of poison oak, and other bottle catchers.
This little thing popped out. A 4" Mexican Mustang from New York.[]
My First Coin! []Kinda worn. Just laying there. In the leaves.
Next to some shards and Oak.
A 1884 Nickel. Any info on cleaning? Etc.?
Funny- They're still the same size today.
I am a coin collector...if you want to retain full value of that coin...DO NOT CLEAN IT! Just rinse it off with tepid water and dry. The most common mistake people make with coins is to clean off the "tarnish". Coins are valued not only by the definition of mint characteristics but also according to the colouring of the metal through natural aging. Quite similar to antique bottles that are valued for their amethyst colouration.
Thanks guys, I'm not going to clean it. I think that if I did, this would look brand new. the lettering is crisp, no scratches, I can see tufts or hair and facial features without magnification. Maybe next time I'll find a 1914. The last one sold at auction for over a million $! Quite the expensive nickel!
This one I found out is 18- $28. But I'm not complaining[]
