Introduced circa 1930...Bottlers probably thought the black glass protected the contents from the harmful rays of the sun...

JOHN...they're about a 10 - 12 ounce capacity and black glass...base only is embossed with "Mission Orange" and something else...Dry?... (can't remember)....I imagine they had a paper label, but have yet to see one.

Hi the glass wasn't black it was the label, these bottles are extremely common. The one I have here is an older version, not sure if they are common or not, it's from the Dr. Pepper plant in Alpine, TX. As for the glass you are thinking about Orange Crush, they had amber glass to protect the drink from the sunlight.

Been trying to find a pic...they are slender & tapering towards the mouth...plain slick sides....base only is embossed.....black is actually a very dense amber....not amethyst as one may think, nor olive.

Oh Ok I've never heard of that before, I misunderstood, there are two on ebay under completed auctions. Here are the item numbers

7313181052 You should ask that guy if he still wants to sell. It probably had a paper label.

Here is the second one that sold, it had the label, 6167873574

WTG on researching the auctions.
I have my own library I look to for answers, besides my limited brain capacity ,and I also do a lotta lookin' on Google. It's amazing what one can find just piddling around in those links.
