How common was it to use this closure on these bottles? Made by McC (William McCully and Company Pittsburgh, Pa. 1841-1909) A hutch included in second pic for comparison.

That Putnam cork retainer dates back to an 1859 patent, if memory serves.. and it was widely used on sodas through the 1880's, maybe a bit later.. the Hutch came along in 1879, if memory serves, and was around until after 1906..
I am always excited to acquire a bottle with a Putnam retainer on it.. a sign of decent age..
