Would this have been a good bottle? Dug it broken this past weekend. It appears to have been a large picnic sized tooled crown top.

To the best of my knowledge, they are fairly uncommon. My brother has one, but that is the only one anyone in my family has dug whole in over 20 years of digging in the area. The company began in 1908, but I'm not sure how long they were in business.

I just dug up one of the larger of the 2 bottles today. The one I found is in one piece.

I haven;t finished cleaning it up yet. I also have to figure out how to get that piece of cork out.

This works everytime, you're gonna need to let the cork dry out for a few days so put the bottle near a window that gets alot of sunlight to help dry it out...

No need to preserve the cork, just bend a coat hanger a little and yank it out. If it breaks the cork, so what.
