need help with stoneware

I recently dug my first stoneware piece and have no idea how to date it. there is no makers mark and it holds about a quart of liquid.

heres a pic of the base. any info on age or purpose of the crock would be appreciated and if anyone needs any more pics ill post them.

Looks like a brownware storage crock... out here they called them Oyster crocks... along our area, there was once a huge market for oysters, they were shucked ad sold in crocks similar to what you found. It was for bulk storage... but I don't know if oysters were found in your area...

no oysters in my area but thanks for the idea. what is the age of most of them that you find in your area?

Hey Tony...

The ones that I have found are in the 1880's range... not extremely valuable but they make great center pieces or vases for flowers at the table. I like them[]

Thanks Wayne. that date fits the age of my dump so ill go with that. i really like it to so im sure ill find a use.
