A friend sent me these photos for my opinion. Judging only by the pictures I guess 1840's is safe enough but I'm also thinking American, it's the shape of decanter that makes me think that. If it's American it would almost certainly be from the New England I believe. What's the opinion here? [attachment=1207a.jpg][attachment=1207c.jpg] [attachment=1207b.jpg]

That's not much to go on but just from the pictures I'd say neither. Is it a ground stopper, real cranberry or stained, stencil or etched, pontil (and what kind) or smooth ?

This is a pretty complex design (mold, lip, rings, stopper) to be Continental for that time period and the color does not seem consistent. My guess would be European from a later date, though not my area of "expertise" and I use that term very loosely.

So you havent told us every thing - Pontil mark on the bottom? - Vertical seams on the finish? The design is really great and the art work is unique but some hands on study is called for, RED M/

You should most definitely get this one appraised by someone like Heckler. If this is from the era I believe it could be worth hundreds if not thousands of dollars, depending upon who made it...Is there any indication on the bottom? Marks? Initials? Could we get some more pictures of the base, inside the lip, etc.Does it have ten sides? Maybe a good cleaning would help.Joel

Bohemian Glass dates back to the 13th century from both Bohemia and Silesia which became Czechoslovakia.
