I dug the liniment bottle on the left recently and to my knowledge it is the only example with this embossing. The bottle on the right is also quite rare and similar. The variant on the right is embossed LUCE'S BLACK LINIMENT PREPARED BY GRISWOLD & BALLARD CIRCLEVILLE O..It is open pontilled with a rolled lip, this embossing variant also comes in a smooth based key mold with the same embossing. The bottle on the left is a hinge mold and is embossed LUCE'S BLACK LINIMENT PREPARED BY W.W. BALLARD CIRCLEVILLE O.. Dr. Griswold left the partnership in 1865 and I had found continued advertisements by Ballard alone through the late 60's so I was excited to turn up this variant.

I know it's only a little liniment bottle but cool to me, nonetheless..

Neither bottle is listed in Jim Holst liniment bottle book. Great book if you get a chance to pick one up.

Thanks for the comments,

RD, he sure does, he doesn't miss much in his med books.

Jamie, I don't mind not having info on bottles I find then I get to go looking for it, and that is half of the fun..

Cap, your right it was for horses so I am sure it would give you a kick. Although I hear Pole evil and whirl bone is no fun.[:D]
