Here are some finds from eBay; the entity we all both love and hate for reasons which often overlap, depending upon which side of the transaction we are on:

Cannabis Apothecary. A solid investment in my book, and a very interesting piece of drug history for anyone who is aware of the nature of the substance. No damage, just some minor crackling of the waxy substrate under the glass cover due to its age.

An AWESOME book by Kellogg regarding the deleterious effects of tobacco, from 1922! I got it for a tad over 20 bucks and it is invaluable in terms of its historical implications. Many people trump up the surgeon general's report on the dangers of tobacco which was put out 40 years later, but few realize the extent of the knowledge of the dangers of the substance which were known decades beforehand. This kellogg was the same man who brought us the cereal we all know.

13 by 16 inch thick cardboard advertising poster for Krinkle Corn Flakes. A tad over 10 bucks, oh yeah!

1885 Physiology, Hygeine and Narcotics textbook. Pretty nifty, i'd say.

11 monthly late 1920s periodicals from a drug store in Michigan. I like paper items, so this material is cool to me despite being not as desirable as the previous items.

Great SS coke bottle from Peoria.

A nice antique hand-vice. I will be using it for carving stone and sharpening blades.

From elsewhere:

A nice ferruginous marble pedestal saved from a dumpster at a century-old university building. It has some chunks missing but it works just fine. 45 pounds. Bacon on the top for comic effect. [:D]

Hey there you collector of Paterson items you!

Dug it out of my dump in July 2008, here it is in my dirty kitchen with some 1:1 water/HCl in it:

n1937295_44303802_6204.jpg

"W.H. Hutchinson & Son Bottlers Supplies Chicago, ILLS." and yes, it was put out by the same fellow who patented the closure. I would imagine it held some tasty flavored syrup or perhaps a concentrated flavoring extact, but I am not certain. I've found buttloads of hutches in the dump and I would guess that it came from the IBW bottling works in Peoria, but possibly the Singer bottling works or an unnamed home bottler bought the thing. My bets are on the former, considering the bottles which surrounded it. I couldnt believe that it came out complete. It was a good day of digging, to say the least. It has a few tiny flashes in the base but it is a sweet bottle. Not worth too much but how many hutch collectors out there have one of the bottles which contained the flavoring used in the soda which filled those hutches? Not too many, i'd bet.

FAR OUT!~ THANKS FOR SHARING! I ONCE WAS INTO BOOKS ALMOST AS MUCH AS BOTTLES.ESPECIALLY IN THE 70S WHEN I BOUGHT THEM FROM A NICKLE TO A DOLLAR. STRANGE DAYS INDEED IN THE USA AND HOW PEOPLE THOUGHT OF DRUGS IN THE LATE 1800S. ONE THEY LOOKED DOWN ON TOBBACO/ALCOHOL MORE THE OPIATE PRODUCTS AND COCAINE. ONCE READ AN ACCOUNT OF HOW THE OPIUM EATERS WERE FOES WITH OPIUM SMOKERS!

READ A STORY ON MICROFILM ABOUT A DENTEST IN THE TOWN I LIVE IN FROM THE LOCAL PAPER OF 1903.HIS WIFE LEFT HIM FOR ANOTHER MAN AND MOVED TO NEW ORLEANS. [THIS ACCOUNT OF THIS GUY'S DOINGS WERE RIGHT IN THE PAPER. SUCH A SMALL TOWN THEN] IT TALKED ABOUT HOW DEPRESSED HE GOT AND GOT ON COCAINE AND HEROINE. THE PAPER DID NOT SEEM TO THINK THAT SO BAD ,BECAUSE IT READ "THEN HE STARTED TO DRINK!!!"[LIKE THAT WAS HIS DOWNFALL! WELL HE LIVED IN A HOTEL IN TOWN AND AFTER AWHILE OF NOT SEEING HIM ,PEOPLE WENT TO HIS ROOM. COULD NOT GET HIM TO THE DOOR AND IT WAS LOCKED. LAW ASKED TO COME. THEY COULD NOT GET IN. THEY SENT A "DARKIE BOY" [WAY IT WAS WORDED] TO CLIMB INTO THE TRANSOM [WINDOW OVER A DOOR BACK THEN] AND UNLOCK THE DOOR TO FIND HE HAD HUNG HIMSELF! I HAVE SOME PRESCRIPTIONS FROM HIM ROUND THIS HOUSE SOME WHERE.

LOVE THOSE OLD BOOKS! THANKS AGAIN FOR SHOWING THEM! JAMIE

Hey Stephen,

I'd be more than "Woohoo"ing, if I found that great Hutchinson. Do you think it had the Hutchinson stopper?

Please show us the post-bath photos. Is that the largest known Hutch?

Woo-fargin-Hoo!
