I found an interesting bottle while I was walking in the woods on our property, which used to belong to an old farm. I found a bottle which I did some research on. The only thing I had to go on was a symbol, which turned out to be the Owens-Illinois Glass Co. The numbers indicated it came from the plant in Terre Haute Indiana which was only open from 1934-1950. And another number indicated it was made either in 1936 or 1946. I am not sure which. I tried to do more research on this particular bottle but I am not sure as to what it was. What I did find was that the plant made beer, pepsi, and milk bottles. Not sure if they made any others. Well its not a milk bottle, and I found out that the pepsi bottles had different identification on the bottom, but their beer bottles were colored and the one I found is clear. I would post a picture but my internet service is too slow to upload one. I was just curious if anybody has heard of these, or knows if they made other types of bottles. From first glance it looks like an old ketchup bottle, if that helps with a descripition. I do not know much about this, and was hoping somebody could help?

Hey Jeranimo,
Welcome. A picture would help but you may very well have a ketchup bottle. In addition, by the 1930s most bottles were made of clear colorless glass. What you have is probably not too rare or valuable but it is neat that you found it on your property. Keep an eye out and maybe you'll get lucky enough to find more. If you wants tips on how to locate bottles peruse the forum. Best of luck!

Hello and welcome to the forum. If the number to the right of the Owens mark is a 6 it was probably made in 1936. There are exceptions but from my understanding Owens used 46 for 1946.

Thanks, I wasn't sure about the year and that little tidbit of information helped. The fact that the bottle is in perfect condition with absolutely no chips in it intrigued me. I am currently trying to wash the dirt out of it, and if I can I will try and get a pic up to see if anybody can tell me more about it. But thanks I appreciate the help.

These are my other four finds for today. The first one is about 5 in. tall, and about 2 1/4 in. in width and 1 5/8 in. depth. Not sure what that one is, it looks like it could be some kind of relish container. The second is 5 in. tall and 11/2 in. wide I this one I am unsure of as well. The third is quite clearly a french's mustard container about 4 in. tall and 2 3/4 in. wide with the date Feb. 23-15 on the bottom, not sure what date order that might be in whether month first or day first, but its plainly visible. The last is a tiny little thing only 2 in. tall 3/4 in. width and 4/8 in. depth. My Dad said it looked like it could be an old iodine bottle, but he wasnt sure, and there are no numbers or anything to go on for that one. Anybody know what all these might be?
