ok, so I have this box which looks like some sort of chem box for meds. All of these bottles are inside. One bottle has a lable with ER Squibb & Sons 1858 on it. There are some blue strips inside. Any idea what this set is? Date? What do you think it is worth?

Hello rachelrhin0; I have never got into meds that deep but I can realize real fast that what you have, is a great example of the traveling Doctors needs. It is almost a museum piece in my estimation. Lets hope that is where it ends up because if they broke up the ingredients and sold them separately - history would be lost.

I have the same problem with an "American Tinker's" 2 tool chests. I haven't found a museum that will give me anything for it. I have lost my Santa Claus beard and I know from experience - things given to a museum often get sold because they need a new roof. or something.

I am sure some of us would like to know if any the bottles and/or vails, have pontil marks on them. I realize that some of them have ground stopper finishes. It is a neat set - FOR SURE. RED Matthews

That is indeed a neat old kit! There seems to be one bottle though that doesn't belong in there, the one with the black screw top.. looks more recent. What is the white thing up top? Looks like a small bowl ..?

Hi cyerdigger; If I remember right they are called 'Petrie Bowl' and were used to make a chemical mixture in. Regarding the screw top, I assume you are talking about the second one from the center box section. "SO", I would think it was added later. It could even be a pushed on lid.
