Very nice. Some of the books look like cookbooks that my Mama had back in the good ol' days.

Very nice display. Are any of those books about preserving/canning?

Several of them are, I actually started my jar 'addiction' by finding odd and different jars in the boxes of working jars (thats what I call them) off of Craigslist.

I have some old ones, one of those is a Betty Crocker from 1954 :)

I can't remember who is was by but I had one with recipes for groundhog, squirrel, crow etc. along with the more normal sounding beef, lamb, veggies, pies, cakes, sauces and stuff.
It may have been from the depression. It wasn't from the "Roadkill Cafe", I know that. [:)]

That definitely sounds depression era to me, they didnt waste anything...that or a back-woods down south type cookbook, they still dont waste anything either, from what my DH says, and I know around here, eating squirrel isnt too unusual

I hit a quail once driving and knew that was a fresh kill so I ate that. The groundhogs a shot for eating my garden I through in the woods.
I never had a problem with them after that, maybe it was a deterrent to all the others in the area. I should have maybe kept them for mincemeat and canned the buggers or something.[8|]

sorry for hi jacking your thread. but

I bought a huge lot of cooking books and cooking material at an auction. Some of the stuff dates to the late 1800s.
Would you be interested in seeing what i have? send me a PM/email.

I know I have 50+/- issues of Gourmet Magazine (1941 -> 1951)
they all have Henry Stahlhut cover art. Very cool stuff.
