Here is a bottle that I dug up, quite by accident, while doing levee work with an excavator at a duck club along the Southern Pacific Railroad right of way (now Union Pacific) in the Suisun Marsh, California. It is deep olive green, three piece mold with pontil. How I didn't break it is a miracle, let alone noticing it in the mud pile. It is quite squat compared to other bottles of this color and shape that I've collected over the years. It measures 9" tall overall by 3 1/2" in diameter. Any ideas how old it is and what it contained? Check out the photo and see what you think of it.

It appears to me to be Scotch or Irish Whisky and date from the late 1860s to mid 1870s. Those dates are difficult for me on non-USA bottles though. I might change my mind with the bottle in hand for closer inspection.
