I say "optional" instead of "opposite" because if it is in fact an original 1963 Pepsi Cola blueprint, then we know the pattern was not criss-cross as the blueprint shows, but should be of the swirl going in one direction or the other and not both directions.
You'll be happy to know there is a Pepsi where they go both ways Bob, it gives it the diamond pattern you see here....

P.S. ~ P.S.

I doubt that one in a hundred collectors would even notice the direction of the swirl unless they knew about it in advance and were actually looking for it. I have several swirl bottles packed away and at the moment have no clue which direction the swirls go. I never even thought about it until now. For all I know it might be more common than we think. ... ???

Thanks

Now I'm more confused than ever and bet I'm not the only one. I honestly don't recall ever seeing a "diamond" pattern. But then again, I might have drank from them as a kid and just never noticed.

A quick look thru ebay for Pepsi Swirl shows only 'right handed' swirls and the diamond pattern one I posted, so I'm gonna go out on limb and say the 'left handers' aren't too common. I didn't check the completed sales, just the active ones...

I thought the "lefties" were purged with the McCarthy hearings in the fifties.

The swirl is to the right. Not a good photo.
Base has what looks like a upside down backwards 5, then 68
The A circled, # 2 next to the A
#18 under the above info

This description sounds like a ...

1968 Armstrong Cork Company bottle. Armstrong's mark was an A-in-a-circle

It would help to know what city/state/region the bottle originated from. Maybe its a regional thing ... ???

â—¾A in a circle ... Armstrong Cork Company (Glass Division), Lancaster, Pennsylvania; Millville, New Jersey [former Whitall Tatum Co. plant] ; Dunkirk, Indiana [former Hart Glass Mnfg Co. plant]. Mark was used from 1938-1969 on bottles and insulators. If there is a line underneath the “circled Aâ€, this indicates the bottle was produced at the Dunkirk plant.
