In my best estimation. Bottles were no longer being pontiled by 1859. I believe that the last year for pontiled bottles made in Philadelphia was 1857. It may have been a bit later in other places. But it does seem to have been a quick change over for all areas. The device used to hold the bottle in place on of a pontil. Could still push the base inward if the glass was still soft enough.

There are only 2 molds he used for 1852 when he opened and they didnt have dates. Russ 104 and 108.

He changed to the Russ 152 ginger ale design in spring of 1871. Any of his bottles dated 1852 are just excelsior establishment year.

Thanks for the information. So what was the purpose for changing the bottle dates every 7 years?

Nobody knows a reason that im aware of. The biggest mystery being the Columbus bottle dated 1883, when he sold his business in 1879.

Just a quick question. Do you have a picture of the 1883 Columbus John Ryan? Thanks again for your information
