Lengfeld's made several different embossed prescription bottle variants, as you know. Everything from super-plain looking, to the earlier ones with a fancy monogram, and perhaps the best-known variant in cursive script embossed Lengfeld's San Francisco which come in clear, amber and rarely in teal/aqua. I've even got a milk glass Lengfeld's potlid, similar to the Owl Drug ones. I passed on a very large mint specimen of the cursive script Lengfeld's variant at the recent Vallejo show with a $40 asking price, and instead ended up buying an "unlisted" Oakland citrate for the same money, just before I walked out the door on Saturday.
I'm thinking there might be a trade in the works for the Peters dose glass [see earlier post in this thread on page one].
Sir Jason,
Here's one from your neck of the woods(sorta). Is there a book on these dose glasses??
AND HOW DO I CHANGE THE DATE THING ON MY CAMERA?
My children are never around when I really need them!
Wow, changing the date thing is something for the more advanced camera-buff![8D]
Yes, Edrick Miller's book on Embossed California Pharmacy bottles has a whole section on dose glasses, however for an updated
easy-to-access list go here:
http://www.bergsengs.com/Dose_Cups_Or_Medicine_Glasses.html
This contains state-by-state listings of all known-by-the-author dose glasses. In fact there is a pretty nice history of Lengfeld's Pharmacy
in San Francisco on the website, too.
As far as Miller's book, last I heard he was sold out, and contemplating another revision. It is so hot here in San Jose I might as well live
in Sackamenna...[8|]
Woah! How weird I went to that website to copy the URL, and it was up and running yesterday morning.
Now I see it's "not found"...interesting.
Something wrong with linking to the website from here, when I click my bookmark it works fine.
Try typing the URL in your address bar, then it should work peachy.
Just found the pictures of your dose glass collection here. Awesome! A couple of them look very familiar to me (guess you know why), but some are new to me altogether. I like the Forster (I like how CALIFORNIA is spelled out) and I like the Walters Hospital Supplies glass. What about The Owl Drug Co.? You just gotta have one from there! If not, let me know. []
