According to Kovels Antiques here are some record prices paid for bottles

California Club house whiskey bottle medium chocolate amber 1/5th 1872-1874 $30,000

Firecracker flask..embossed George Washington bust and eagle portrait..1820-1840 called firecracker flask because it has the names of John Adams and Thomas Jefferson and the year 1776 embossed on the ridge both died on July 4th 1826……….$1000,000

Various early to mid 1800 flask $10,000 to $40,000

Dr. Wrights tonic bitters bottle yellow and olive tone 10 inches 1845 -1860 $14,400

St. Nicholas Stomach bitters bottle..otis NY deep honey amber 9 inches $ 9,360

Wheelers Berlin bitters bottle Baltimore open pontil 1840-1860 93/8 inches $11,700

American sealed wine bottle. Embossed JH Vernon glass company deep clear green 1810-1820 $26,900

Medicine Pitkin glass works Manchester conn. Octagonal lt yrllow/olive 1783-1830 $6,435

R Flangans Mineral water bottle Philadelphia half pint yellow green $11,115

Ummm, yeah. Kovels can only safely be used as a ROUGH guideline - they are often wrong but seldom in doubt....

You may not have noticed but prices on the rarest and most expensive item (jars, flasks, figural bitters, etc.) have been going up steadily during the recession. There have been many new record prices. The recession has taken a heavy toll on many of us in the middle and below while the very rich have just kept on getting richer.

That's indeed so. I have more and more clients for "the best" while the bulk of collectors have had to cut back on their purchases.
