Spent this past Sunday diving a central Massachusetts river in search of glass. First two finds were heartbreakers...a pontiled ATWOOD'S BITTERS broken off from the shoulder up and a VEGETABLE / BITTERS - Dr. MOWES' - LOWELL MASS. missing the bottom and a side panel. I believe this was pontiled as well. Next was a 4.5" light-medium amber tubular pontiled New Eng. glass house utility sunk halfway into the sand. The color contrasts nicely with the same sized olive-amber I dove up a few years back.

Then an applied collar INSTANTANEOUS / RELIEF - E. H. FLAGG'S - CHICAGO Still some river algae I haven't got to yet and inside has a slight hazy appearance so I may tumble. Does anyone have any info on the rarity of this med?

Hi Mason nice utility. I would love to see a photo of the Dr. Mowes, that's always the way and the Hoods Sasaparilla's are always mint go figure. I have not found a lot so far this year but have found some great shards. They always keep me coming back for a whole one and also lets me know I am in the right area. Happy hunting! No idea on value sorry.

Thanks. I did grab the shards and will post a photo of them tomorrow. You have some killer shards there! Are you in brackish / salt water?

Hi Mason I dive just about anywhere, these were found in all types of water, The pipe was in a tidal mudflat, the coin found digging on land, the glass from lakes, fresh water rivers and salt water rivers. I do most of my diving in the cold months less boats, better viz and in some areas no bacteria (warm water grows all kinds of funky stuff).

I would think that there would be piles of bottle out in the oceans and bays off new England and N Y . were I read they dumped city trash for years. they may have gone farther out then where you all dive ?

Someone once told me that back in the '70's divers would zigzag back and forth through the Cape Cod ponds until they hit trash piles. In the old days people would leave they're trash out on the ice and when it melted everything dropped to the bottom out of sight.
