S. C. Burdick Alfred, N.Y master ink? Food botlte?

Here is an 8 ½ inch high bottle that is embossed with S. C. Burdick Alfred, N.Y. near the base. It has 8 sides and a ground screw top. I would like to know if anyone knows what this bottle was used for. It reminded me of a master ink or possibly a food bottle. If you have any suggestions, I would appreciate it.
