I found this small bottle just laying in my neighbor's yard, and I would like to get as much info about it as possible. I think it is machine made, but it has what to me is an odd seam pattern. There is a seam circling the base of the bottle, faint seams up all the way to the top, but also a seam that circles just below the lip. It is about 3 1/2" tall, and on the bottom there is the Pierce Glass Company mark, so it is from some time between 1905 - 1980's. There is also a 287 and below that a 6. The seams didn't really show up in the picture, so I highlighted them in yellow. Let me know if you would also like the original.

It very well could be shoe polish. We're always digging up shoes around here, and I bet they liked the shoes polished. Any idea on the age?

Hey John,

You didn't show us the base, where often there are clues. I'd guess first quarter of the 20th Century.

I have a picture, but it is hard to see any details on it. I'll try to get a better picture, but I'll post the one I have for now.

Actually I have 2, but I'm not sure which one is better. Here is the other one.

Hello NJCollector; Well it is obviously an ABM made bottle. The seam under the finish was caused by the use of a guide ring in the neckring mold part. The neckring seam usually lines up with the mold seam. Pierce Glass had two plants I think in Pennsylvania, one was at Port Allegheny PA; and that plant was bought by Ball Corp. of Muncie Indiana. It could have been a bottle for a lot of products. RED Matthews

I've seen quite a few of those bottles, I recognize the 2oz indication on the bottom. They are usually shoe polish, I have found a few with an old rusty applicator and fuzzy ball still in the bottle and white residue. I've even seen an ad somewhere. I keep them when they are aqua colored.
