Hello there! I am new to the whole bottle collecting hobby and I have a few questions about a small medicine bottle I picked up the other day at an antique fair.

The dealer (a very kind old man who's cutting down his collection) told me (when I asked) that he had found it rummaging around in a box of goodies full of antique veterinarian supplies.

I do not know a whole lot about bottles so any and all information would be awesome. The bottle is probably about an inch tall.

Here are some pictures, :)

http://i33.tinypic.com/j9uayq.jpg - Don't mind the dark spot on the back, it's the little price tag that I haven't taken off. Something interesting to note about this bottle is that there are 4 intentional (very) little glass bubbles around the top and 3 on the bottom (they create extremely tiny bumps on the outside of the bottle.. Haven't seen that before.

http://i37.tinypic.com/1zwyu0p.jpg - Side view. This bottle has three pieces, the 2 sides of the bottle and the bottom. The side ridges only go up to the bottom of the tip of the bottle..

http://i33.tinypic.com/2zjgfgh.jpg - Tiny hole for a syringe maybe?

http://i38.tinypic.com/21j26h3.jpg - Bottom of the bottle. The groove is hard to see on the top right and the 3rd bubble is kind of hidden by darkness in the picture.

The bottle is in VERY good condition. Most of the dirt you see is my fingerprints. ;)

Thank you so much!

WELCOME TO THE FORUM!! NOT A LOT TO SAY BOUT YOUR BOTTLE..LOOKS LIKE MAYBE EARLY 1900S AND LIKE YOU SAY PROBABLY A MED AND THE SMALL HOLE COULD VERY WELL BE FOR A SYRINGE.

NOT MUCH VALUE IN IT AT ALL..NO EMBOSSING,NOT A UNUSUAL COLOR,BUT IF YOU LIKE IT THAT IS ALL THAT MATTERS![&:] JAMIE

Welcome to the forum. The bottle appears to be the type used to hold vaccines, etc that were dispensed with hyperdemic needles. Usually had a red stopper in the small neck. Appears to be a bimal bottle. I agree with Jamie that it dates around 1900. Good luck finding and collecting.

The little bumps are mold air vents. You see them often on BIM bottles. The ridges are called seams and are where the glass expanded into the seams between the mold parts during blowing.
Here's a good exposition on them on Bill Lindsey's web site:

scroll down to Mold Air Venting.

Bottle collecting has so many cool things to learn! Enjoy.
