I’ve recently- on 2 separate occasions -found these small dark green bottle punts. It’s odd that they’re not indented the way punts are on larger bottles. Any idea what type of bottle they came from and why made this way?

I've never seen these before, they're very strange. That seems to run somewhat contrary to the way a bottle is made. My best guess is that they aren't the bottoms of bottles at all, they're some totally unrelated item - but no clue what.

Also, it looks like someone's prom photo has snuck its way into your post by accident.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I thought the same thing. I just can't imagine what they're from. Thanks also for heads up about prom pic. haha

Could it be some kind of glass stopper that goes on a bottle top?

Interesting. I suppose. I just can’t envision what they would be stoppers for…

Did you dig this in a dump? If yes what was the age of other stuff in the dump? What kind of dump (privy, backyard trash pit, city dump, river/ocean)? And what state? It looks like its been in a river. This is very interesting.

So I think if you flip that the other way around, the perceived bottom of the bottle is actually the kickup inside of the bottle. And what looks like the sides of the bottle are actually the slopes of the kickup sloping down to the base. Seems that there were 2 different types of kickups.

Thank you for all of this info. I had seen the Beachcombing Mag article, but not the piece from Sea Glass journal. This picture is particularly helpful in terms of illustrating what you describe.

PS -I found both of these on a Long Island Sound beach where I frequently find things from early 1900s.
