Hi
I was wondering if anyone can help me date this stoneware jug i found. It's 4 1/2 inches high and 8 inches around at it's widest point.
On the bottom is stamped U.S.A. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Anthony

As a general rule of thumb, any item marked with the country of origin including the United States was made mandatory by the federal government in 1891. After that in about 1904 plus or minus a couple of years it was made mandatory to include the words Made In. The abreviated versions came about later and judging by the color and the mark I would say 1930's or newer.

I don't have any closeups of the straight side on the left and unfortunately my digital camera is broken. My coworker ,who got me into bottle collecting, speculated that maybe there was a string that was tied to this side on one end and to the cork on the other.
