snake- what kind?

hi everyone, found this snake on my frt. porch today. the porch is about 4' off the ground. release it in the yard, not sure if i should have taken it father from the house. help appreciated. rhona

It looks like a small gopher snake,but I'm not 100% I used to have many snakes as a kid but never one that looked like that.
Its not a copper head,he wouldn't be that relaxed.
(I mean the snake) [:D]

Gopher snake sounds about right.
Doesnt look anything like a copperhead.
You are safe,keep him around the house, they love vermin.

Chicken snake. We don't have any gophers around here. There are alot of names for them like, corn snake, false rattler, grass rattler, barn snake, fox snake and that is just a sample of the things that I have heard old timmers call them.

I herd them call um deadsnakes also [8D]
People sure have some misconceptions about snakes,they are just old wives tales.

The hoop snake will bite its tail, form a hoop and roll down a hill after you.

A snake wont cross a rope

Cut a snakes head off and it won't die until sun down.

There are many more.....

hi everyone, thanks so much for the information on the snake. now i am not worried about leting it go in the yard. i guess i was more concern about it biteing ginger[:eek:] as much as anything. ginger is my baby[:)]. thanks, rhona
