Many years ago, I was going to dig a very old trash pit. We had just put down our digging tools when the snake started to rattle, not more than 6 feet from where were. We quickly dispatched it the land of happy snakes. My buddy and I weren't afraid of snakes, so there was no problem with them. We were right along the border between New York and Pennsylvania, where we never even thought rattlesnakes lived, but we soon found out there was a place nearby where rattlesnakes were caught for their venom. Soon after that we heard another rattlesnake rattling. That was a quite a surprise for two Virginia natives.

I'm from New Hampshire originally, so poisonous snakes down here in Texas are a bit new to me. In the past week, I have seen 4 different snakes, including a coral snake and the ones in the photos.

Didn't kill em did ya?

Ya know the only thing they wanna do is eat and make baby snakes. Myself, never do I kill em. Had to stop and get some rattlesnakes outta the road the other day before some moron came by and killed em.

Here's a fact...........ya know what 90% of snake bite victims have in common?

If you said...."They were drunk" you would be right. Saw this feller get popped two years ago. Drunk, and trying to get one in an ice chest.

I carry a bucket w/ lid in my truck during the summer....................I get turtles outta the road too. If they have been hit and not broken up to bad I'll bring them home and patch their shells w/ JB Weld.

Never seen any while digging but my grandfather woke up one night to something hitting the back door,He thought it was a raccoon or something but when he opened the door it was a cottonmouth striking the door.He couldn't shoot him on the porch so he had to spray it with wasp spray and shoot him in the yard. Personally I can't stand poisonous snakes, garter snakes, black runners, and grass snakes don't bother me too much.

We have the black snakes , Blue Racers , Garter snakes , and water snakes in my county . Used to catch a lot of them when I was a kid , drove my Mom nuts ! The adjoining county has copperheads and rattlers . They say that have made it into our county , but I have never seen one or the other here . I have always heard that copperheads and rattlers will not inhabit an area where there are black snakes , never knew for sure if that was fact ot not .
