I love this thread for a couple reasons. First of all, you've found some AMAZING glass that any collector would be proud to own! Additionally, I love that we get a cross section of what you find in Bermuda. Looks like you've got an equal mix of American, British, and mainland European stuff. Very cool, and it must be an experience to pull up a bottle and have no idea which side of the Atlantic it's from!

Wow, super finds here! It shows the huge variety of stuff that went through Bermuda. Great age, and that's the crudest Hostetters I've ever seen. I've recently started looking for bottles in the bay of an old seaport. I found a broken dutch onion so I'm hoping for just a small sample of what I'm seeing here.

Hi

These bottles have turned up in small numbers in different parts of Australia and here would be classed as scarce but not rare.

I am SPEECHLESS !! Before I begin diving I'll have to learn how to swim 1st...[8|]

2 Onion bottles were found in a privy here in Nova Scotia back in the 1960' at on old French Fort dating to the 1740's...that area now is a National Historic Site. That will give u an idea of how old those Onions could be!

Fantastic dive finds!

When I dive for bottles in Maine most of the time I just see a bit of a bottle sticking out of the mud or sand and then hope for the best when I dig it out. What kind of situation do you find yours in? Are the bottles in random spots or near old wharves or anchorages or even wrecks? I find mine off old wharves.

Dive safe and dive often.

Hey Alan, i have found bottles all over in Bermuda's waters, my oldest finds i.e onins, porters, blown bottles i find in St.Georges area since it is the oldest port here and was the first capital. My favorite place is the old Royal Naval Dockyard at the west end of Bermuda, both inside the camber and outside. The construction of the dockyards began in the late 1700's and completed in the early 1800's. The work was done by Convict labor & these men were housed in floating hulks called convict hulks & during this period almost everything was thrown into the water including small carvings these laborers would make in their spare time. The water depth inside the camber & outside ranges from 35-55 ft deep which makes this place a time capsule for all types of artifacts especially bottles, also a great number of sailng vessels/ships used this area as an anchorage. Today the camber houses mega ships during the summer and when they arrive & depart the bow & stern thrusters act like a dredge blowing the silt & soft mud away exposing glass for real easy pickings, in fact so easy i usually fill 2-3 large dive bags with all types of glass spaning over 100 years. I allways look forward to the fall/winter when the ships are gone, its like x-mas for several months. I have also found bottles near old warfs, houses & wrecks, sometimes i dig by hand also, asdredging is not legal here.[8D]
