Some sort of Medical bottle or beaker?

Help me out with this one, what was it used for? 9 inchs top to bottom.
Laboratory use? Value?

What you have there is a wine bottle. It would have originally been stitched up in a basket like this one.. probably from Italy, seems to be 1/2 liter size..

The fact that it's embossed makes it more interesting than most.. but that's definitely a European "1" ..is it a tooled lip?
