I have been stricken by the bottle bug so I joined this forum on recommendation by two friends who are members. I am a scuba diver and until recently placed my occasional bottle finds on my curio shelf with the intention to “look it up laterâ€. This past year during two trips to Bermuda, we had the good fortune to meet local experts and make a few bottle hunting dives with them. I have been poring over Internet sites and these forums and even found an old book in a used bookstore but still have a few mysteries to solve.
Here is my first mystery bottle. It is a dark cobalt blue, 7 inches tall with a 3x3-inch base. No embossing. It has two seams that stop at the neck. The bottom has what looks like three worn numbers but I can’t make them out – maybe “783â€. The top appears to have been applied after the bottle was molded. It was full of muck, which I cleaned out after I brought it to the surface but other than a fresh water rinse, nothing else has been done. Any clue about use and age range is much appreciated.
