Hey dave, thanks. I would think 1872 would fit the time frame of using "electricity" as a catch-word..Must be the same maker, huh? How would one put a price on this BME bottle? I may want to add it to my insurance...No one I ever asked has any info..
For those who don't want to dig in the link..
_______
Item from the Bement Register, dated 15 January 1891:
"Lafe Booker has taken the agency for Brewster Medicated Electricity, a sure cure for cold in the head, catarrh, hay fever, asthma, sick headache, la grippe, etc. The cure is in a bottle containing a complete electric battery, and is guraranteed for two years. Mr. Booker has the agency for Piatt, Champaign, and Moultrie Counties, and the medicine is sold only by agents. If you are troubled by any of these diseases, it would pay you to try it. It will be on sale at Alvard's grocery."
Hi, this is not from Dover, N.H. It is actually from Holly, Michigan. I have a photocopy of an old ad that shows that E.E. Brewster was located in Holly, Mich. and the price of this item was 50 cents. Not sure exactly how long he was in business, but from the trade catalogs in the U of M library for sure he was marketing this product in 1887. He died in 1891, so it is likely that this patent medicine venture was short lived. I have attached a picture of his tombstone from the Lakeside Cemetary in Holly.
