I have had this treaded blown bowl for a long time now and
I have never been able to make any conclusions about it.
I guessed old and I've guessed new. My thoughts have been
American, European, Continental. I have looked at it as being 20th century art glass or just a plain reproduction of some type.
The high pontil push up has made me think; French,German, Spanish and the list goes on. I can't find any example to use as
a reference for any determination. As you can see, it has a crude
form. It is a light honey amber and thin glass with the obvious
applied string. To any and everybody on this Forum; give me
your opinion of what you think. Age, Origin, Reproduction, Fantasy, American, Mexican, European. Thanks, Greg

The glass and the color remind me of a pitcher (vase? handled vase?) we inherited from my folks. It is pontiled, reputed to be antique. My mother said (and the extremely faded hand-written label on the bottom did too) that it was from the Balearic Islands (Majorca?), made in glass works destroyed in the war (WWII? WWI?) The glass is yellow and the vase has a thread of glass applied in a fairly tight spiral from bottom to top.

I was always taught these types of pieces with the glass threads and the fairly small, high kick up pontil were Mexican, circa 1960, but I don't have anything upon which to base this assertion.

Jim, You may very well be right with your thought. Also with
the information Dave has provided about the Balearic Islands
that are off the coast of Spain and the style and form of
Spanish glass, Mexico could very well be the origin of the bowl.
Thank you both for your theory. Any more theory's would
be a great help. I'm trying to establish a pattern from individual
perspectives. Thanks, Greg

My two centavos - I am also of the opinion that this is a Spanish or Mexican piece. The color, suspended bubbles, light weight and pointed push-up all point me towards towards a more recent time of origin outside our our own borders. Not really a fantasy piece (in that there are threaded bowls of early periods) and not a reproduction either (in that it does not to my knowledge directly relate to a documented object) but rather a pretty and interesting piece of glass with lots of eye appeal.

Thanks Jeff for your two centavos. The reason I've kept it
is exactly what you said , interesting piece with eye appeal.
