Here's the patent for the older jar. https://www.google.ca/patents/US625517?dq=%22may+23,+1899%22+mucilage&hl=en&sa=X&ei=cv-cU4m3GsqiyAS1ioGwAw&ved=0CBsQ6AEwAA So that one was definitely mucilage, with the smaller chamber being for a brush. This one isn't quite the same, of course, but it seems pretty likely that it's a similar idea.

So Dave Do you ewant me to send it back? Just let e know. I think we have it identified now. I wish we knew which factory made it - so we could find out what metal was used to make the mold equipment. That is what I would like to know. RED M.

I don't know what it is but I know that it dates right at the turn of the Century. I have been digging in an aold urn of the Century dump and find the bottoms like that all the time.
