Finally found the oldest privy on my property - I think! This stone liner only yielded a BIMAL Hoyts Cologne, a small square amber and a tiny perfume with a jeweled screw top. Interesting, but not what I was hoping for! Don't mind the pink shirt ... it was a gag gift from an assignment I was writing about at a women's health center. But, it does make a great digging shirt!

Seem to be having a problem uploading the photo, so I'll try again!

I'm thinking there is another privy to the upper right of this one ... no time to dig again until Tuesday, but I will definitely post the - hopeful - finds! My house was built in the 1860s and there HAS to be some pontiled stuff here somewhere! [:)]

Hi Warren,
I hit about five feet with this one and a layer of red shale ... probably goes deeper, as this is the second layer I've hit. I seems the walls go down a bit further, so ... we'll see! The top was newer coal ash, then some shale followed by nice night soil ... then, shale, but it's still rather loose, so .... can't wait to get back to it!
Take care,
Rich
